The world-renowned mining company Barrick Gold and Jupiter Mining have reached a cooperation on experimental research on efficient recovery of copper ore by flotation columns.

Barrick Gold Company, headquartered in Toronto, is one of the world's largest gold miners. In 2023, the company produced nearly 4.1 million ounces of gold and approximately 420 million pounds of copper. By the end of 2023, Barrick has approximately 20 years of gold reserves and a significant amount of copper reserves. The company acquired Randgold in 2019 and later that year merged its mines in Nevada with its competitor Newmont into a joint venture, currently operating mines in 19 countries in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

At the beginning of 2024, Mark Bristow, CEO of global mining giant Barrick Gold, announced that the company plans to accelerate its expansion plan at the Lumiwana copper mine in Zambia. At present, the goal of the expansion plan is to start production for the first time in 2028.

Barrick Gold Company stated that the expansion project will transform the Lumwana copper mine into one of the world-class copper mines, with an expected annual production of 240000 tons over a lifespan of over 30 years. The estimated cost of this expansion plan is close to $2 billion, and construction work is expected to begin by the end of 2024.
